Tree Falls, Kills Woman Walking On PA Trail: Lehigh County Coroner

A woman was fatally struck by a falling tree while walking on the Saucon Rail Trail in Lower Saucon Township, authorities announced on Thursday, March 6.

Police were called to the trail between Old Mill Road and Meadows Road around 12:17 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, for reports of a tree falling onto a pedestrian, the Lower Saucon Township Police Department said in a release.

Emergency responders, including police, fire crews, and EMS personnel, treated the victim, identified as 61-year-old Robbin Mary Danko of Springfield Township, before transporting her to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill, where she was pronounced dead at 2:41 p.m., officials said.

Danko died from blunt force injuries, and her death has been ruled an accident by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

The Lower Saucon Township Police Department was assisted at the scene by Dewey EMS, Lower Saucon Fire/Rescue, and Lower Saucon Township Public Works. The investigation is now closed.
